St. John’s Church

St. John’s Church is one of the religious-cum-architectural hub spots located on Mall Road in Lansdowne. This Roman Catholic Church was a forest bungalow in ancient times and was reopened on 29th November 1980.

Surprisingly, it is the only church for devotion in Lansdowne. The church was designed in 1936 under the guidance of the Agra Diocese, and its construction was completed in 1937. After the independence of India in 1947, Agra Diocese could not oversee this church because of the scarcity of priests. Later on, the whole management of the church was handed over to the Indian Government in 1951. In 1977, Rev. Gratian Mundadan wanted to start a new vision in Lansdowne.

In 1980, Mrs. Indira Gandhi, then Prime Minister of India, allowed the permission and handed the overall responsibility of the church to its authorized owners.
